Medical Camp
Tenets of a healthy childhood include good healthcare. I am not sure how to define it or how much of it we are able to provide the children who come to the class regularly. To bolster our efforts, we decided to hold a medical camp for the children, and their parents.
The camp was organised on sunday, the of May. A doctor friend was coerced into getting her already busy sunday committed to looking at the kids a basic health check done. Rajeev also came along to help with things and armed with two docotrs we went about sizing up the kids, their vital stats and common ailments. The camp is useful 'cause it gets a trained professional to look at the problems which this group might have and helps in spotting other major problems at a slightly earlier time.
Earlier, i visited their housing locality with kaushik. the scene was no different from what you see in movies. narrow lanes in one corner of an urban village. no water but electricity was there in some. it was dirty, but life goes on. the better off households even had televisions and coolers. anyway, what i wanted to share was the care, awe and attention that we got from the parents of our 'wards'. It went a long way to reiterate my belief of how much they appreciate our efforts, and that they belive we can make a difference to their lives. Not sure how true to their expectations we will be in the end, but atleast this is one more source for us to draw our inspirations from.
cheers!
