Three years have gone by and looking back one finds a fistful of mixed seeds. Ups and downs have come our way and we as a team have constantly gained with experience. What remains undiluted is the core objective of the organisation. To be able create a more humane existence for these children.

A look at their faces tell us a story. I am not sure how to define it or how much of it we are able to provide the children who come to the class regularly. To bolster our efforts, we decided to hold a medical camp for the children, and their parents.

The camp was organised on sunday, the of May. A doctor friend was coerced into getting her already busy sunday committed to looking at the kids a basic health check done. Rajeev also came along to help with things and armed with two docotrs we went about sizing up the kids, their vital stats and common ailments. The camp is useful 'cause it gets a trained professional to look at the problems which this group might have and helps in spotting other major problems at a slightly earlier time.

Earlier, i visited their housing locality with kaushik. the scene was no different from what you see in movies. narrow lanes in one corner of an urban village. no water but electricity was there in some. it was dirty, but life goes on. the better off households even had televisions and coolers. anyway, what i wanted to share was the care, awe and attention that we got from the parents of our 'wards'. It went a long way to reiterate my belief of how much they appreciate our efforts, and that they belive we can make a difference to their lives. Not sure how true to their expectations we will be in the end, but atleast this is one more source for us to draw our inspirations from.

cheers!

Educational Toys and Games

Educational tools make it easier for expressing and making the kids understand complicated principles and phenomenon. they also aid in retention of the concepts they learn by making them use for winning their games.

this is something that we will try out in class with various groups to see how much we can make them learn. Taleem, a unit of Eklavya Education Foundation (Ahmedabad) has come up with some such games.

Recent events

The recent past has seen many things happening in the class. The weather has changed and so have the class timings. First, the sunday classes shifted to 11:00 am from the evening classes and now the heat has made us change it to 10:00 am. The good part is, the class is easier on the kids too.

From january, we have started adding milk to the kids after class diet on sunday's. The kids seem to like it and are usually pleased if they get a second helping. Should hope to make this a more regular feature for times to come.

Holi too was celebrated in class like all other major festivals. Like previous years, the kids made their own natural colours using mehndi, haldi, besan, maida etc. Natural colours are fun to make and dont cause harm to skin and eyes. The kids also learnt how to make paper bags to keep the colours and as expected, most of it was used up immediately after the class in an impromptu holi celebration amongst the kids. It was fun, both for the kids as well as for the volunteers who had come well prepared.

Will try to add more details about people who we met and the things that we are planning.

Faith Foundation

Teaching children.
